The Simon Kenton Council sent four troops to the 1997 jamboree.
This was the first jamboree that the SKC sent a contingent to. Troop 1331 was lead by Dave Worley, Dale Bailey and Phil Malone. This page has some more of our experiences.
Training was held during monthly meetings at Shawnee State Resort.
Additional training was held for adult leaders and junior leaders.
Specialized JLT was also held. Better to "be prepared."
Part of the training experience were two "shakedowns."
The first at Scioto Trail State Park, the second
at the Scioto County Fairgrounds. Besides important training, and fun,
we loaded the semi trailer from Luther's - ready for the trip!
Part of the 1997 trip included a two day walking tour of Washington, DC and
we visited Annapolis, home of the US Naval Academy.
While at the 1997 jamboree, Troops from the SKC participated
in a World record of water pale passing. It was also called the "Fire Bucket Brigade."
Troop 1331 did it's part!
Other events included being in the Subcamp Olympics where Troop 1331 won several events!
Jamboree life was different than the "real" world, but it was a lot of fun!
